Intermodal Terminal Company are developing the Somerton Rail Terminal in partnership with Austrak Multi-Modal Freight and their contractor Acciona.
Authority to enter the Somerton Yard precinct is provided by the TFPC on duty on behalf of the above.

Entry and Exit from the Somerton Yard Precinct is undertaken as below.

Train Arriving Somerton Yard:

Train Arriving at Signal post SOM/2 requesting permission to enter into Somerton No 4 Road.
- Rail Delivery train to arrive at SOM/2 Signal at Stop.
- TFPC will contact ARTC Network Control - Main South ‘C’ Board (Junee).
- Requesting to set the route from SOM/2 Signal into Somerton Road 4 by obtaining permission to manually operate Somerton Points No 3 and No 1U & 1D into the Reverse Position.
Once permission is granted point clip on Somerton 1U Points can be removed and TFPC can manually operate Somerton Points No 3 and No 1U & 1D into Reverse. TFPC is also required to check the baulks on No 3 Road entry have been removed and the route is set and clear for the train to enter into Somerton No 4 Road.
- Main South ‘C’ Board (Junee) Network Controller is to issue an Arrival Message for Train from SOM/2 Signal into Somerton No 4 Road.
- When the Train has arrived complete into No 4 Road, TFPC is to contact Main South ‘C’ Board (Junee) Network controller to request permission to return Somerton Points No 3 and No 1U & 1D manually back to Normal position and reapply point clip to Somerton No 1U Points. (Note: SOM No 3 Points are to be placed back into Motor).
- Baulks on No 3 Road are to be reinstated by Acciona.

Train Departing from Somerton No 3 Road

- Train to stop at SOM/V4 Signal.
- TFPC is to contact ARTC Network Control - Main South ‘C’ Board (Junee).
- Requesting to set the route for Train to exit No 3 road from SOM/V4 Signal towards Melbourne Signal ES650.
- TFPC to request Permission to remove point clip on SOM 1U Points and to manually operate Somerton Points No 3 and No 1U & 1D into Reverse Position.
- TFPC to conform route is secure and baulks on No 3 are removed.
- Main South ‘C’ Board (Junee) Network Controller is to liaise with the Melbourne Metro (Mile End) Network Controller and confirm that the route has been set, the train is ready to depart and that the Melbourne Metro (Mile End) Network Controller can issue the Caution Order for the train to depart Somerton in accordance with the instructions as published in Network Information Book 30-30 in Section 2.15.1, Failure Conditions.
- Melbourne Metro (Mile End) Network Controller to issue a Caution Order for Train to depart SOM/V4 Signal.
- When Train has cleared Somerton Signal SOM/2, the TFPC is to contact the Main South ‘C’ Board (Junee) Network controller requesting permission to manually set Somerton Points No 3 and No 1U & 1D back to Normal and securing SOM 1U with a point clip. Baulks are to be reinstated by Acciona and TFPC is to notify Main South ‘C’ Board (Junee) Network Controller that the route is safely returned and all personal are clear from ARTC Network.
